La FÊTE 2026

LaFête is our annual New Year’s celebration of everything wonderful that the Montreal Tango Community is best known for: Authentic tango danced by true aficionados of all ages in a classy yet informal, cosy atmosphere.

This year, to make the celebrations extra special, we're transforming our New Year's La Fête into a Tango Fling!
For those unfamiliar: The Fling is a spectacular, week-long celebration of Montreal tango that pulls the city's local tango happenings into one festive calendar, making it a favorite event for both local dancers and out-of-town visitors. While traditionally held around the Labour Day long weekend, this year's edition will be tied directly to our New Year’s celebration.

In keeping with the vibe of our local tango scene - most of these milongas are ‘‘pay at the door’’. For the most part, there is no need to reserve in advance, however we do appreciate it if people can reserve for New Year’s Eve ahead of time (helps us know how much to buy in terms of bubbly and snacks!)

LaFête is organised by Projet Tango in the Studio Tango/Tango Social Club space,
LaFête profits go to help fund our Bailongo Montreal Tango Festival held each spring.

All of the LaFête Milongas will be held here!
The Studio Tango Montréal / Tango Social Club space is located in the up-and-coming Villeray district. The space includes two large studios, each with a very distinctive style plus a smaller studio that is used mainly for private classes and small rehearsals. What's truly wonderful, is that it's even possible to open up a passageway between the two larger spaces so that both studios can be used simultaneously during a milonga, upping the capacity to well over 300.

Villeray: Village feel, family-oriented, full of artists' and craftmen's studios and hipster cafes. Landmarks include the beautiful Jarry Park (just across the street from our venue) and the wonderful Jean-Talon market.

We have a liquor permit for the LaFête activities: Beer, wine, mousseux, & spirits as well as various non-alcoholic drinks will be for sale at the bar.
A glass of mousseux will be offered to everyone at midnight on New Year’s Eve. It is not permitted (or legal) to bring in your own alcoholic drinks.

 📜 The History of The Fling

The very first Montreal Summer Tango Fling (traditionally held on Labour Day weekend) took place back in 2006—almost 20 years ago now!

It all started when three local dancers got together to brainstorm, searching for a way to introduce our local tango culture to visitors. Disappointed that out-of-town milongueros attending big festivals never got to experience the city's wonderful milongas, their goal was simple: to show these milonguero/as why Montreal is an incredibly great tango destination all the time, not just during large festivals.

So, they decided to create an "anti-festival" or "off-festival," and voilà: The Montreal Summer Tango Fling was born! The original goal—to showcase their wonderful spaces and introduce guests to our charming community —quickly became a way to boost the local scene with a bit of home-grown pride
