‘‘MUSICALITY in MOTION’’
a tango intensive with
RACHEL MOON & JAY ABLING

I am delighted that my good friends Jay and Rachel have agreed to give this tango musicality seminar at the Studio.
With a lot of time invested and much hard work, these talented, experienced teachers have developed a pedagogy aimed at helping students of all levels become more musical dancers.
(Carol)

Experienced tango teachers and community builders, Jay and Rachel combine their talents to offer a unique and stimulating learning experience. Jay analyzes and breaks down complex movements and concepts through an arsenal of visuals and metaphors, while Rachel brings a focus on kinesthetic learning, striving to translate the feeling of tango and help students acquire new muscle memory. Together, they provide a holistic, multi-sensory learning experience.

Jay Abling has been teaching tango for almost 25 years. Drawing on his knowledge from fields such as martial arts, body mechanics, and music, Jay has a metaphor that fits every situation and every student. Rachel Moon, an avid social dancer for over 25 years, fell in love with tango in 2009. In 2015, she spent 6 months training in Buenos Aires and, soon after her return, began teaching with Jay in the DC area.

Jay and Rachel have traveled extensively to teach and DJ across the U.S. and in Europe.
From 2020-2022, they focused primarily on Tango Music Trainer, an online musicality training program for tango dancers.
They currently teach tango in Minneapolis.

WORKSHOP DETAILS

Jay and Rachel have designed this workshop with a distinct progression in mind. Participants who take more than one class (or even the whole series) will benefit immensely. Jay and Rachel recommend that participants come to the Friday lecture as it will serve as a great introduction to the class material.

Don’t miss Jay’s lecture on Friday, October 25th!
Jay trained as a classical vocalist and pianist, has a background in choral conducting, holds a bachelor's degree in communications and prior to teaching tango full-time was a professional graphic designer. He combines these skills to create hand-crafted animations that both educate and entertain while illustrating the rhythmic, dynamic and emotional shifts inherent in tango music. . . . .
